Winter Scenes

This is a few weeks back, around Valentine's Day, there was a beautiful soft snow falling, and we all went outside to tramp around behind the house. The first picture shows Destiny, who spooked a little when I took his picture.

We are Dainty Little Fairies!

Last Saturday there was a private party at the cafe where I work. I think over twenty people showed up, and it's a small area. My one boss Vince was bent on putting on a little performance, and asked if I'd sing. I love singing, so I said yes. Then he pulls out Gilbert & Sullivan, which I hadn't realized were so tricky to sing! They have a crazy range, and go very high. Vince was convinced that I could hit those high notes. He ended up roping in Heather, his partner Tom, Tom's sister, and even the man who was paying for the party (it was his wife's 50th). Vince did make us fairy costumes, though (one of the songs we sang was a fairy song, called "Tripping hither, tripping thither"), which I think ended up being rather lovely.

Heather's Birthday! Part Two: Cake

Our friend Alison Owens, who lives up the road from us, baked Heather a lovely cake for her birthday, with delicious chocolate frosting. In the last photograph, Dylan & I were taking pictures at the same time, so there was an interesting shadow effect.

Heather's Birthday! January 27th

Sunday was a busy day. Heather wasn't able to celebrate til the evening, when she opened her gifts from us and the ones that mother had brought (from Beccah, Jennie & Morag). Quite a stash!

Frozen Trees

When we were driving mother to the airport in Syracuse, we noticed that the trees looked very odd - not the usual bare, black look seen in winter. It took us a few minutes to realize that because of the freezing rain the water had frozen on the trees. We were in the car, but we managed to get some pretty good pictures of this strange sight.

Temple Trip - January 25th

On the 25th Heather, Michael, Mother and I drove to the Palmyra Temple (about a two hour drive). I was going for my endowments for the first time. It was such a beautiful experience. I love the Palmyra Temple so much! It is always so beautiful and warm there. Myles & Charlene ended up coming, and I had so many friends there as well. It was wonderful.

Sunday Drive, part two!

One of my favorite sights is a lone road, straight, or winding, with no cars and no people to be seen. Perhaps I have gypsy(tinker? wanderer?) blood lurking inside me, because there is an adventurous beauty in the sight of an open road, especially if you don't know where it leads. The patch of ice spotted in the last photo eventually covered the entire road, and when I tried to turn the car around it slid around so much we ended up in the ditch! We had to walk about a mile and a half back down the road until we found some very kind people who let us use their phone and eventually helped us out of our predicament. So our Sunday Drive ended up being two and a half hours long!

Sunday Drive

Dylan, Katie and I decided to go on a "Sunday drive" a few weeks back (after all, it was a Sunday afternoon, and we were in my car). We went up a quiet country road that overlooks our house. Before getting the car stuck in a ditch on the side of the road, we were able to stop and take pictures of the huge, ruined shell of a barn, which I had recently discovered on a previous (not Sunday) drive with my friend Nick. There are so many shabby, ruined spots all over the area, most of which are very picturesque.
