St. Patrick's Day

It is an old family tradition to awaken St. Patrick's Day morning and find that the house has been mischiefed by the "leprechauns". This year they really went hog-wild, and left us all some tasty treats. My favorite were the "Irish Potatoes" which were little balls of coconut rolled in cinnamon. We always listen to Irish drinking songs, a tradition of Heather's family (I think these songs are the only happy Irish songs I've ever heard). We had the traditional Irish meal: Corned beef, colcannan, Irish soda bread, and for dessert, black ginger cake. Even though we're predominantly Scottish and Welsh, I love celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Of course, to end the evening in style, we watched "Darby O'Gill & the Little People", one of the most charming films ever!

New Beginnings

As I'm now in the YW presidency in our branch, a few weeks back we had New Beginnings. This is the first event that I really had a hand in planning etc. I didn't do much though, beyond making little flower pins for the girls to go with each of the YW values (which all have corresponding colors). Imagine my luck: there are seven values, and we have exactly seven girls in the YW right now! It was a very fun evening, with delicious refreshments (which I didn't bring: that was the other councillor!). Katie is on the far left, in case you can't tell!

Valentines Day

This year for Valentines Day we all got each other cards & gifts. I couldn't resist getting Dylan a pink princess card - with stickers! It was in honor of his birthday, where one of his friends (a pretty, talented girl in the stake) gave him a princess birthday card. Heather got a Dononvan record. She has the CD, but the record is more exciting, and had more cute pictures of Donovan! Michael got a tin full of candied ginger, which he shared with us. It was a very nice day!
